THE VISIBLE PRESENCE IN DAMASCUS

DCC MILITARY MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS
January thru July 2011

During the first half of 2011, the DCC family has been greatly involved in the lives of soldiers and their families in a variety of ways. Following is a summary of some of the ways you have been caring for others in the military family:

You have made it possible to send several hundred pairs of shoes and sports gear to troops in Afghanistan for distribution to boys in the orphanages and schools built by Oregon National Guardsmen. A special thank you goes to Mrs. Urbanowski and her class at DCS, Dave Wakefield and his class at DCS, Vic & Betty Bowers, and Al & Bonnie Gold.

You made it possible to send many boxes of personal items to individual soldiers, many of them being a part of the DCC family or extended family.

Your faithful giving has helped hundreds of people to see the love of Christ in practical and visible ways. You have truly helped hundreds of soldiers and their families, as well as people in other lands. A recent example of how you have helped is the tragic loss of a 21 year old soldier who took his own life. The DCC military ministry took care of the reception that followed the funeral. Because of the current financial climate, the family is not yet able to pay for the funeral costs. Efforts are being made to raise the needed funds to assist this grieving family to clear this debt. Thanks for your prayers on their behalf.

You supported various Guard Units and their families through financial assistance:
-- Providing for 4th of July picnics for the 3670th and the 82nd Brigade Air Unit
-- Car repairs for three struggling families
-- Utilities paid for several families to avoid electric/water shut-off.
-- Lodging for vets awaiting medical attention .
-- Grocery gift cards for struggling young families.
-- Formula, diapers and clothing given to several families for their babies.
-- Food barrel support continues to provide for a substantial food pantry for the military families.

We commend you for your steadfastness in support of our brave warriors and their families. Thank you for allowing GOD to use you and enabling this ministry to be involved in so many precious lives.

Blessings on each of you,

DCC Military Ministry

The Visible Presence of Christ
Damascus Community Church
Outreach Ministry
Mission
The Outreach Ministries of Damascus Community Church exist to encourage and enable those in the DCC body to use their gifts and resources in calling people to faith in Jesus Christ.  We believe this is the mission Jesus commissioned His Church to carry out (Matthew 28:19-20).
Our Mission Fields

Outreach ministry begins in our own spheres of influence, and extends to our community, nation, and to the farthest reaches of the world (Acts 1:8).  We believe God has called us to invest our lives and resources to share the good news of Jesus Christ with our neighbors, friends, family, co-workers, and then to people in locations around the world.  DCC has adopted an Unreached People Group in Central Asia, with a commitment to educate ourselves about this large block of people, pray for Christ’s church among them, and seek avenues of ministry to reach them for Christ.

Our Mission Personnel

DCC supports missionaries serving within the greater Portland metropolitan area, other locations in the U.S., and in nations across the globe. These workers serve through a number of different missionary organizations and in a variety of ministries. We pray for, support financially, visit, encourage and care for these missionaries in various ways. We also plan short term missionary trips, and help to support short-term workers.

Our Mission Strategy

Prayer is a significant part of our outreach ministry, and is incorporated in regular and special meetings devoted to outreach.  We publish and distribute a prayer calendar highlighting our ministries each month.  We believe our approach in calling people to faith in Jesus Christ must be Biblically sound, demographically appropriate, and culturally sensitive.  The strategy includes our own personal witness, outreach events, training (discipleship), and encouragement, and the support of those involved in these activities around the world.

A prayer calendar for the missionaries and other ministries is published and distributed monthly.

Our Mission Partnerships

Realizing that like-minded organizations effectively serve in our community and around the world, DCC shares in the support of several para-church ministries and mission agencies.
